ESA Eligibility Information
An Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESA) allows parents to use state tax dollars for customized education. It is an option for parents seeking an alternative to traditional public schooling in Arizona. ESA provides funding and support for students meeting specific eligibility requirements.

If an ESA student is approved to participate in YUHSD AIA sports program, a $700 fee per sport will be charged. The fee for ESA students was approved by the YUHSD Governing Board on June 10, 2026, and established after a thorough review of athletic program expenses (uniforms, equipment, etc), including AIA (dues, officials, etc), and transportation costs.
ESA Athletics Procedure
- Complete the eligibility form
- Call your school’s athletic department and request a meeting with the Athletic Director.
- Bring the completed form and required documentation to the meeting.
- Payment of $700 Athletic Participation Fee per sport in Cash, check, or money order, submitted at the District Office.

While participating in YUHSD athletics, students are subject to the regulations and policies outlined by YUHSD and the specific guidelines established for the school.
